“Having therefor these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of
God.” 2 Corinthians 7:1
Let us understand that these promises belonged to the Jews, but we actually have them in our possession. Having received them, having obtained them, having gotten them, having grasped them and being seized of them, let us no longer look at them as mere promises, but things we have in our possessions!
What promises? I will dwell in them, I will walk in them, I will be their God, and they shall be my people, I will receive you, I will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters. What a privilege we have church! God has been pleased to make our bodies, the temple of the Holy Ghost, the place where he resides, and every believer that trust in the Lord Jesus Christ should be enjoying these precious promises.
Understand beloved that these are not things that are coming but these are things which we have obtained. If you believe these promises are true, this belief will serve to motivate and empower your choices and ultimately your overall conduct and lifestyle. This is a privilege saints and we must act upon them by faith in order for them to become reality. Because we have these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit, consecrating ourselves to him completely.
